NDI presented the seventeenth W. Averell Harriman Democracy Award and the third Madeleine K. Albright Grant at the NDI Democracy Luncheon on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi — the highest-ranking woman in American government — delivered the keynote address and joined us in honoring the achievements of this year’s awardees.
AT THE EVENT

Since assuming power, President Condé has reiterated his determination to promote good governance and national reconciliation, strengthen democratic institutions and undertake security sector reform. Guinea is scheduled to hold legislative elections before the end of the year.
President Condé will brief the audience on his government’s actions after seven months in office and share his vision and priorities for the country.

As it has at every Democratic National Convention since 1984, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) welcomed hundreds of international visitors to its International Leaders Forum (ILF), this year in Denver, to observe the convention and witness first hand the nomination process for president and vice president of the United States.
